Psg1 escape

Alis using escape to flee an encounter with monsters in Generation 1.

Escape (Japanese: ラクスタ), also translated Bye and Flee, is a teleportation spell exclusive to Phantasy Star and its PlayStation 2 remake, Phantasy Star Generation 1.

Etymology[]

Breaking down the Japanese word "rakusuta," raku as in 楽 means comfort or ease. The suffix -suta could possibly be derived from the Japanese onomatopoeia すたすた, or "suta suta," which means to walk at a quick, brisk pace. Combine these words together and the new word seems to suggest an "easy escape" or even the English word "skedaddle," a verb which means one is moving or running away quickly.

Phantasy Star series[]

Phantasy Star[]

In Phantasy Star, Bye costs 2 MP to cast. It allows the party to successfully escape from a random encounter that is not a boss or story related character. Alis is the only character in the game that is able to use the technique. She learns it at level 5. A consumable item called Escaper has a similar function and can be bought in most stores.

Generation 1[]

In Phantasy Star Generation 1, Escape costs 2 MP to cast. It allows the party to successfully escape from a random encounter that is not a boss or story related character. Alis is the only character in the game that is able to use the technique. She already knows the technique upon starting the game. If Alis uses Escape while she is poisoned, she will suffer damage before fleeing the battle. Similar to the original game, an item called Escaper can be used for the same purpose.
