The Soul Eater is an evil scythe said to not only devour, but also shred the soul of the person that was foolish enough to wield it. It withers both the body and spirit of its master.

This partizan is very similar in appearance to the Soul Banish in most incarnations. The pole is solid red with a needle-pointed bottom. The blade is typically either a light gray or bright sea green color. There is a jewel embedding near the top of the pole connected to the blade that resembles an eye, the color of which is either green and blue.

Soul Eater is a rare partisan in the original Phantasy Star Online that can be equipped by all character classes. Kireek, an intimidating android aboard Pioneer 2, can frequently be seen wielding this scythe along with the Soul Banish.

The weapon's special attack launches a powerful attack at the cost of some HP. Additionally, it also slowly drains the user's HP over time as long as it is equipped.

Soul Eater has two abilities, both of which make a reference to the evil scythe's infamous reputation. Before the start of the card owner's turn, Steady Damage makes the story character that equips this card lose 1 HP. Instant Death instantly destroys its non-story character opponent after a successful physical attack if a 6 or higher is rolled.

In Phantasy Star Online 2 the Soul Eater returns as an all-class weapon with a 184 dexterity stat requirement necessary in order to wield it. In this version, Soul Eater loses its trademark soul devouring quirk in favor of strengthening a specific partizan photon art.

The scythe's hidden potential, Discoidal Spear, boosts the damage of Slide End by a certain percentage. The potential's potency differs based its current ability level.
