Gifoie or gifoi (Japanese: ギ・フォイエ) is an intermediate damage technique common to Phantasy Star games.

In Phantasy Star II, gifoi costs 6 TP to cast. It deals 33 to 46 damage to a single enemy, with a 90% chance to hit.

Rolf, Hugh, and Shir are the only player characters who can use gifoi. Rolf learns gifoi at level 5, Hugh learns gifoi at level 12, and Shir learns gifoi at level 15.

Phantasy Star IV[]

In Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, gifoi costs 6 TP to cast. It deals fire damage to a single enemy equal to 72 plus the caster's mental stat, modified by the enemy's fire sensitivity and mental defense stat. Slugs, clawed flies, mermen, zombies, rappies, and monsters in Dezolis and Myst Vale are especially sensitive to fire damage.

Gifoi can be combined with a zan type technique or a hewn skill in any order to do a fire storm combo, or used after Wren's burst rockets skill to do a shooting star combo.

Alys, Rune, and Kyra are the only player characters who can use gifoi. Alys learns gifoi at level 14, and Rune learns gifoi at level 19. Kyra already knows gifoi when she joins the party.

Phantasy Star Online series[]

Phantasy Star Online[]

In Phantasy Star Online, gifoie is a medium-level offensive technique of fire. When cast a fireball appears and spirals out from the caster along the ground, damaging any targets that wander into its range. Higher levels improve the damage dealt, the length of time the fireball lasts, and the radius of the spell.

Gifoie does not require a target to be cast, and it hits multiple enemies, but only once per enemy. It also has fairly long start-up and cool-down periods, and should be used with caution.

Gifoie is often used as a method to receive items from several rag rappies at once. A hunter will gather all of the rappies into a tight group and defeat them all. While they lie on the ground the hunter will then cast gifoie and move far enough away for the rappies to get up. When all the rappies regain consciousness, they immediately take damage from being inside the gifoie's radius, and all drop items at once.

Red Merges and Fire Scepter:Agni will boost all fire techniques, including gifoie, by 20% when equipped.

Twin Blaze's special attack is a low-level gifoie.
