Io (Japanese: イオ) is a character in Phantasy Star Online 2. She is a Braver Deuman who specialises in the Bow. She gives the protagonist Client Orders based around performing Perfect Attacks to defeat enemies, and tells the protagonist what little she knows about the shady events surrounding the creation of Deumans. In Side Stories, she is teamed up with Azanami as her foil.
Personality[]
Io is rather introverted and prefers not to stick out too much. She can become easily flustered and embarrassed when put on the spot, especially when in the presence of the protagonist.
History[]
Upon first meeting the protagonist, Io introduces herself as a new member of ARKS and refers to the protagonist as "Senpai" much to their surprise. After seeing the protagonist's curious gaze towards her horns, she explains that she is a deuman. She proceeds to gives a brief explanation about the deuman race identifying her horns and heterochromia eyes as key characteristics of deumans. But upon reaching the topic of the tattoos covering her entire body, Io became reluctant to show them to the protagonist despite their inquiring expression, saying that it wasn't appropriate and that she wasn't into displaying herself.
Throughout Episode 2 to 3, Io runs into the protagonist quite frequently and is occasionally teased by the latter during their encounters.
In Episode 4, she reunites with the protagonist after the two year time-skip and expresses her joy in seeing her beloved senior again. But when the protagonist draws too close to her she becomes flustered and threatens to tell Matoi if the protagonist were to do anything "weird" to her.

Phantasy Star Online 2: Episode Oracle[]
Io talks with another female ARKS when she sees Ash and asks if he has a problem since he is staring at her. She introduced herself to him and explains that the horns she has are one of the traits Deuman have and that they are one of Oracle's four races which shocks Ash. Still confused, he asks what Deuman are exactly but Io isn't sure what to tell him, explaining that they are a race created to specialize purely in offense. She also says that long ago some fabric fell out of spatial distortion and a fusion of blood cells from dragon and Falspawn was found on it, using those blood cells are how Deuman are made. Still not convinced, Ash wonders how long the race has been around for and Io responds that he is testing her, telling that everyone knows that they have been around for over 100 years.[2]
Io approaches Ash and greets him but is annoyed by the fact that Ash forgot her name. She tells him her name again and says that she already knows his name because he's famous among the ARKS. She then is surprised that he doesn't know about the rumors that have been going around and tells that the rumors are about him being involved in some bad things. However, when Ash asks about what it exactly means, Io doesn't have a clue. With Ash being flagged as a traitor and Code ABYSS being used by Regius, Io joins Afin and Risa to kill Ash. Io uses her bow and its arrow hits Ash in his shoulder. To protect Ash, Matoi stands in front of him and Io slams Matoi out of the way with her bow, kicking her in the stomach as well. Afin holds Ash at gunpoint and Matoi shouts which breaks the trio out of the control of Code ABYSS. Coming back to her senses, Io asks herself why she was trying to kill his Ash and helps Matoi to get up, apologizing to her for what she did. Many Falspawn start to appear on the mothership and the trio stay behind to defeat the Falspawn while Ash and Matoi head for their destination.[3]
They are still fighting the Falspawn when many ARKS appear on the mothership and start to shoot them. During the battle, Quna reveals that the info has been tampered with and releases some other info as well about what Luther has done behind the scenes to everyone.[4] Everyone then goes to help the Council of Six to defeat the Klariskrays clones.[5] With the battle over against the Klarisklays clones, Afin, Io and Risa help the other ARKS to evacuate from the mothership when they hear an explosion. Wondering what it was, Io looks it up and Risa tells them that the mothership's degeneracy space is collapsing. Afin wonders how bad that is and she responds that it will cause a huge explosion which shocks the other two. With everything back to normal, Io goes to Ash and apologizes for when she tried to kill him. Ash responds that he doesn't mind since she was controlled by ABYSS and tells her to get along like they did before.[6]
Io stops Pati and Tia from entering Euclyta's room when Ash and Matoi come and wonder what's going on. Io asks them to do something about Pati since they are her seniors according to her. Ash suddenly grabs Matoi and take their leave with Io stopping the twins from eavesdropping when they want to go after them. Suddenly, the medical center gets attacked by Falspawn and Io escort patients to safety while defeating some Falspawn on her way. However, more Falspawn appear and Io quickly runs to take cover behind a barricade that's set up by other ARKS. A huge Falspawn breaks through, heading towards Io and the patients, when the twins come and defeat the Falspawn. Io wants to go back to save the other people that have been left behind but she isn't able to when the hallway gets closed. Ash and Matoi enter the room and wonder what's happening to which Io responds that an explosion and Falspawn came from Euclyta's room. Io lead the duo to another way to reach Euclyta's room and they defeat the Falspawn that are standing in their way. They reach the room where Io witnesses Ash and Matoi get eaten by Dark Falz Gemini. Afin wants to go after Gemini but Io stops him and tells him that they need to leave while they still can.[7] Afin and Io make it out of the medical center with Euclyta and two head back there when they hear an explosion. They arrive at the place and want to help out Ash and Matoi fight Gemini but Ash tells them to stay back. Multiple Falspawn are summoned by Gemini and Io tells Ash and Matoi to leave those to them. Afin and Io later witness Matoi tranforming into The Profound Darkness.[8]
Io watches Quna's annoucement and agrees to help Ash to save Matoi.[9] Io comes to Afin's aid by defeating the El Arda that were coming for behind and tells him that she'll take care of the flying ones. She and Afin continue to fire at the horde of Falspawn that's coming for them. At the end of the battle, they go to the grave monument where they see Ash and Matoi, calling for them.[10]
