Gene (Japanese: ジェネ) is a character introduced in Phantasy Star Online 2es. She is a young Third Generation ARKS and the heroine of Season 1. While good-natured and always proactive, she has a rough time in combat due to how she interacts with photons.
Gene makes a cameo appearance in Idola: Phantasy Star Saga.
History[]
Following the unexplained destruction of an ARKS EMS research facility that killed 208,893 ARKS staff, Gene, the protagonist, and the Weaponoid More form a team to track down Zaccard, a Deuman who survived the incident and may possess valuable information on the cause.
At the end of Chapter 2, Gene overexerts herself fighting Zaccard and physically breaks down, fainting. She spends the subsequent time skip in rehab to recover her strength.
In Chapter 3, Gene helps reform the protagonist's team upon their awakening from stasis. She leads the charge in the ongoing hunt for Zaccard, although new opposition in the form of another ARKS known as Dante threatens the mission.

Trivia[]
- Due to Gene's spectacularly-high photon consumption rate, she usually ends up exhausting her stamina and out of breath in every major battle.
- Gene refers to the protagonist as "Leader".
- In the main game, where she appears as a guest character, her Partner Card reveals that her Weapon of Choice is a Double Saber.
- Her name is a play on the word "Genesis", As Gene and Lord are both Weaponoids derived from the Roto Raut Genesis weapons it's commonly known that Gene's name was mistranslated to be Jeanne instead as her name is pronounced with a soft g. Genesis Weapons were relocalized in the Global version to Cosmogenic Weapons due to religious reasons hence losing some of the context to her name in the progress.
- During the events of PSO2ES Episode 3, Gene is assisted by Lord and achieves a goddess form similar to Matoi, Hitsugi and Harriet. In this form she is able to perfectly purify corrupted photons. Although it leaves her drained.
- Boltrend Games' global release of Idola: Phantasy Star Saga marks this character's very first localization endeavor, giving her an official Western name outside of Japan, which is Jeanne.
