Story Synopsis[]

Main article: Story of Phantasy Star II Text Adventures

Taking place before the events of Phantasy Star II, the Phantasy Star II Text Adventures follow the exploits of eight characters destined for a fate greater than they could ever imagine.

A cocky 11 year-old prodigy named Rolf is humbled when he is soundly defeated by a renowned sword master. The young boy vows to discipline and strengthen himself so that one day he may overtake this worthy opponent.

Following the traumatic slaying of her adoptive parents, a young Nei lives a life of wandering, shunned from the public for her hideous monster-like appearance. This child's tragic tale takes a turn when she comes across a chance encounter to learn more about her origins... and a chance at revenge.

Hugh Thompson, a student at Motavia University, is attempting to create new breeds of flowers by experimenting with genetics. Upon learning of strange happenings around campus, Hugh goes in search of the monstrous culprit responsible.

While on military leave, Rudolf Steiner's life is turned around upon learning that his family has been murdered by a vicious biomonster. Although initially vowing to avenge his slain family, this vengeful hunter eventually sets his sights on the complete eradication of biomonsters on the planet.

Anna Zirski, a young bounty hunter, follows the trail of a wanted Motavian who has been hacking into the Mother Brain in order to steal food from a local dome farm. What she learns from her adventure changes her entire outlook forever.

Dr. Amy Sage has just finished her medical internship and is ready to stake out on her first trial. She is to deliver medicine to the children of a nearby elementary school that has been ravaged by a biomonster. With the assistance of a hermit named Heinz, the two hunt the culprit while tending to the needs of the victims they come across along the way.

The troubled 18 year-old run-away Josh Kain earns a living in a slum called Lume by working odd jobs. One chance encounter after another leads the young man into a gang's schemes to destroy the Mother Brain...

Shir Gold is the spoiled daughter of one of Paseo's wealthiest families. Although she grew up living a life of luxury, she seeks out a life of thrills by committing various heists. Her current target: a famous painting held within the tight security of a popular art gallery.

Gameplay[]

As these are text adventures, each story is centered around a menu interface. A main event frame can be found in the middle of the pane, an action frame at the left side, and character stats in the middle. There are situational options on the right-hand panel that allow the player to Move depending on the terrain, Look around the current surroundings, Take an item from a source, Use an object or skill, or Drop an object. Finally, on the bottom panel, adventure text is displayed that describes the character's motivations, feelings, status, or simply narrates the details and action of the story.

During battle segments, the character stats come into play. HP is the character's current hitpoints; AP is the character's Action Points, which are consumed accordingly based on the action the character takes in combat. MST is short for Meseta, the universal currency in the Phantasy Star franchise which is used to buy items from shops.
